Privacy Policy

1 Overview

Soap Calculator (soapcal.pro) is a free, browser-based tool suite for soap and candle makers. The vast majority of what happens on this site stays entirely on your device — calculations run locally in JavaScript, and no calculation data is ever sent to any server.

We operate under the principle of minimal data collection: we only handle the minimum amount of information required to provide and improve the service.

2 Data We Collect

We do not collect:

• Calculator inputs (oil weights, lye amounts, recipes, costs)
• Names, addresses, or payment information
• User accounts or passwords
• Device fingerprints or advertising identifiers

We may collect, through standard server logs:

• IP address (anonymised after 24 hours)
• Browser type and operating system
• Pages visited and time of visit
• Referring URL

Server logs are used solely for security (abuse prevention, rate-limiting) and aggregate traffic analysis. They are not shared with third parties.

3 Local Storage & Your Recipes

Calculator state (your oils, weights, saved recipes, preferences) is saved using your browser's localStorage. This data:

• Stays entirely on your device — it is never transmitted to our servers
• Persists between browser sessions until you clear your browser storage or click the reset button
• Can be deleted at any time via your browser settings (Settings → Clear browsing data → Site data)

We also use localStorage to remember your dark-mode preference and unit selection (grams/oz).

4 Newsletter & Email

If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. This address is:

• Stored securely in a Google Sheet accessible only to us
• Used exclusively to send occasional updates about new tools, oil database changes, and soap-making tips
• Never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing
• Removable at any time — every email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can contact us directly

Newsletter subscriptions are processed through a server-side proxy to Google Apps Script. Your email is not exposed in the browser network requests.

5 Third-Party Services

We use a minimal set of third-party infrastructure:

• Hosting / CDN: Our site is hosted on a private server. Static assets may be cached by your ISP or browser — no third-party CDN currently.
• Google Apps Script: Receives newsletter subscriptions server-side. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

We currently run no third-party analytics scripts (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no tracking SDKs). If this changes, this policy will be updated and a cookie notice will be displayed.

6 Cookies

Soap Calculator does not set any tracking cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or social-media pixels.

The Service Worker (a browser feature that enables offline use) caches static assets locally on your device. This is not a cookie and contains no personal data — it can be cleared through your browser's site settings.

7 Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:

• Access: Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Deletion: Ask us to delete your email from our newsletter list
• Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Opt-out: Unsubscribe from newsletters at any time

To exercise any right, contact us using the details in Section 10. We will respond within 30 days.

8 Children's Privacy

Soap Calculator is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the newsletter (if applicable).

Continued use of Soap Calculator after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
